FAQs

A remote notary public cannot physically hold the signer's identification to inspect it...so identity verification using a safe and secure format provides the required identification confirmation needed to perform a notarial act.
2-Step Process: Identity Verification + Knowledge-Based-Authentication (KBA) or Biometrics
Identity Verification:
Identity Verification aka Credential Analysis deters fraud by verifying the security features on a signer's valid government-issued photo ID.
Knowledge-Based-Authentication (KBA):
Knowledge-Based-Authentication (KBA) consists of five (5) questions. These five questions can be generated based on the signer's history which is found using their social security number (SSN), credit report, and state-issued ID. If your credit reports are frozen or locked for any reason, KBA will not function. Four out of five questions must be answered correctly within two minutes with no more than two attempts within 24 hours. If the signer fails a second attempt, the system will prohibit retrying with the same notary for the next 24 hours. This portion is required and cannot be overridden.
Biometrics:
Biometrics is a process of gathering information in order to verify your identity. This is done by answering some questions, uploading your ID, and a face scan.
Once successfully completed, the signer will see an invitation to return to the computer and proceed to the notarization session.
